ONE GLOBAL EDUCATION, MULTIPLE CULTURAL EXPERIENCES

YOUR GATEWAY TO FUN, IMMERSIVE LEARNING BEGINS AT SIM GE

A bustling youth and arts scene, check. A diversity of cultures and races, check. A reputation for educational excellence, triple check. Besides sumptuous local food and distinctly modern comforts, there’s a whole lot more to enjoy when you choose to study in Singapore. Consistently ranked as one of the world’s best cities to live in, the little island nation also punches above its weight when it comes to producing career-ready students who also know how to have a good time. And it’s no wonder, especially with renowned institutions of learning like the Singapore Institute of Management Global Education (SIM GE) championing precisely such a cause.

An award-winning institution in the private education arena, SIM GE has an annual enrolment of 19,000 students, 20% of which are full-time international students from more than 40 countries. So whether you are a Korean drama fan, American hip-hop enthusiast, or aspiring international gourmet trust that there will be endless wefie opportunities with people you don’t simply study alongside, but bond with to create incredible memories. But first, English!

ENGLISH – THE LANGUAGE THAT BINDS

It goes without saying that succeeding in the real world requires skills and, more importantly, great communication skills. That’s why SIM GE fosters an English-speaking environment in which all students can grow confident enough to practise and improve their command of the language. Simply ask any of the 150,000 graduates that have passed through the institution’s doors, whom we are certain can converse about more than just the Singaporean heat or order their favourite plate of “nasi lemak, more chilli and peanuts” – all without skipping a beat.

CLUBS, COUNCILS AND CAMARADERIE

Of course, the classroom isn’t the only place where you can put your English skills to good use. Beyond mere books, campus life at SIM GE offers exciting opportunities to connect with like-minded peers and assume leadership roles, through a comprehensive range of clubs and student councils overseen by the Student Development (SDEV) Department. These clubs and councils comprise five broad genres of co-curricular activities (CCA), including:

  • Arts and Culture
  • International Students Club
  • Leadership and Development
  • Special Interest Clubs
  • Sports & Fitness

In particular, the International Students Club is a welcome breath of home for those adjusting to a fresh life abroad. Established Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Burmese sub-communities provide a sense of family and togetherness, making the transition that much easier. Those with an appetite to venture out of their comfort zone can even join the SIM International Multicultural Mix (IMMIX), where students of all nationalities can learn about the cultures and heritages around them by taking part in activities as diverse as Chinese calligraphy, basic Japanese lessons, as well as signing up for casual meet-ups and workshops.

What exactly does this all mean? For starters, you’ll never get bored! Better yet, you’ll get to develop all-round soft skills while expanding your social circle, giving rise to infinitely more Instagram moments with new friends. After all, there’s no better happiness than one that’s shared.

Plus, there’s always AISEC for those who want to take it a step further. A global youth network that provides leadership development experiences, AISEC partners with international organisations to give young people a platform to take part in cross-cultural exchanges through overseas internships and community service experiences. A chance to further indulge your travel desires while learning even more? Make that a double yes!

A PAL FOR LIFE

With your communication means and channels nailed down, it’s also important to ensure that your grades stay as top-notch as your social life. That’s where the Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) Programme comes in. This student-to-student academic support network features PAL Leaders who help others with a particular subject matter – it’s just like streaming a YouTube educational video, but in real life!

Need assistance with that challenging business module, or simply want to acquire essential study skills? PAL Leaders are always on hand to help you ace your studies. More specifically, these senior students are those who have completed specific subjects and undergone voluntary training as facilitators. Sit among small groups of 15 or less at weekly 1.5-hour learning sessions, and you’ll be a subject expert too before you know it.

If that sounds pretty epic, it’s because it actually is. Don’t just take our word for it though. Come experience an education that puts the F-U-N in fundamentals at SIM GE, where global citizens become global-ready.
